Language: My adventures in Duolingo
In the daily grind that was quarantine, everyone has found some way to alleviate the time, and better themselves at the same time. For me, at the beginning of Quarantine, during the first lockdown, I found myself diving into my Science Fiction manuscript and downloading the Duolingo app on my phone.
I saw this as a way to better myself for the job I hoped to go back to. As the days extended and I got shifted from one workplace to the other before my eventual ‘Temporary’ Leave. I started learning french. But like a lot of my endeavours to learn a language, I found myself spending less and less time on the app.
This wasn’t because Duolingo was a hard app to use. On the contrary, the app itself is easy and at some times fun to use. I spent most of the quarantine in and out of my workplace before being let go. It took me months to realize that this might be it. The days of my enjoyable job was over and now I needed to look at other forms of work to get into. This eventual Quarantine depression dragged me down as the days got hotter. I spent most of my days walking aimlessly in the streets around my house as a way to get out of the house.
Winter has hit, and I’ve found myself re-downloading the app, along with other educational apps. I have no idea if I will be able to use them or if I will find myself again lost in the desert of…
