I've never really read any of the novels of The Lord of the Rings, but I fell in love with the motion picture trilogy, of both Lord of the Rings and it's The Hobbit series. I have to say I agree with you, about Frodo not being a relatable character, and that if Tolkien had expanded on it's explanation of the ring and Gandalf's power it would've made for a better story.
